We had been marching for many hours through the woods, and, the troops growing tired, I called a halt in the midst of a clearing. With foresters sent out to hunt for fresh food, and pickets guarding the main force the troops were in high spirits. However, as evening passed into night, we noticed that not all the foresters had returned. Concerned that something was amiss, I ordered the troops to make ready. And not a moment too soon!
