The terrain was hard going, but still, [Character] traveled with a light heart and a song on his lips, the clear air lifting his spirits. And, paying somewhat less attention than he should have been to his surroundings, he realized of a sudden that he had come upon a dwarven camp, low buildings strewn about a mine shaft sunk deep into the mountain. Initially apprehensive, to his relief they appeared friendly, gesturing to him to come join them at their meal. Falling into conversation, the real reason for their welcome made itself clear, as they mentioned that they had a struck considerable vein, and so had surplus ore to sell. Long negotiations followed, the dwarves clearly taking almost as much pleasure from haggling over price as they did from mining the materials in the first place. Still, eventually, a set of costs were agreed upon.
