Over the past few days, the land had grown increasingly wild and unfamiliar. And eventually, becoming increasingly certain that he had taken a wrong turn, [Character] decided to retrace his steps. Even as he turned, however, he noticed crumbling stones, half-concealed by the undergrowth. Clearing some of the foliage away, he found that they seemed to form the foundations of a tower, long-since fallen. And, within the circle, stone steps leading down into the darkness below. Lighting a torch, he made his cautious descent, to emerge into a small chamber. Heavy with dust, the room was empty, all other furnishings long-since perished, save for an ancient book on a stone dais, somehow still preserved and bound with an iron clasp. A sense of lingering malice filled the air, and despite the warmth of the underground chamber, he shivered.
