As [Character] traveled, the land began to alter, becoming richer, more verdant. The grass, now thick beneath his feet, was soft to walk upon, the air sweet with its scent. Ahead he spied a herd of horses, unsaddled, wild, but even as they smelled him on the breeze, they took flight, the beat of their unshod hooves felt through the earth as much as heard. All, that was, but one. A magnificent white, standing tall and proud, and unafraid, too, as he approached, lifting its head to regard him more as equal than as anything to be concerned at.
