Trees, strangled with ivy, hung with lichen, old and bent, rose from the tangled brambles and creeping plants, what little light managed to filter through their canopy of blackened branches leaves dim and dreary. Soft rustlings and queer noises, grunts, scufflings and hurryings, emanated from the undergrowth, unseen creatures moving amongst the heavy carpet of dead leaves. But worst of all were the spider webs, dense cobwebs with thick threads, stretching from tree to tree, tangled in the branches, glistening sick and pale in the half-light. Not daring to stray from the narrow path, [Character] found himself growing cold, fearful, the sense of being watched, observed by unseen eyes, causing dread to rise within him. Suddenly a muffled cry, barely audible, nevertheless sounded loud in the funereal quiet of the forest. And, peering into the undergrowth, [Character] saw a huge cocoon, twisting in the air, as if someone, or something, were trapped, struggling, within.
